Review: 'PSAPP'
'Hi'

-  Label: 'Domino Records'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '18th Sept 2006'-  Catalogue No: 'RUG232CDP'

Our Rating:
‘Hi’ bleeps. ‘Hi’ gurns. ‘Hi’ splashes.

It all adds to the creation of a chopstick cacophony that filters in and out of focus to the lifeline rhythms of electric guitar, reminiscence and the oddly-metred pulse of feminine vocals as they breathe time to this out of sync. siren-esque ode to oddity.

This squelching swamp sound is at glorious odds with words and a piano hook that threaten to suck you into the morass. Taking a deep breath, this plunges into the revolving door that is pop music, but it doesn’t have to hold its nose for long, so wonderfully does it adapt to the biological alarm clock and deep sinking telepathy of blank verse before grinding abruptly to a halt.

‘Apple Black’ is a track in reverse - more loungecore, more staccato, less insistent. Yet almost like a careers interview at graduate level it warps its way in and out of the possibilities open to it like a music box on hallucinogenic night watch.

‘Sometimes my body stops me/sometimes my head’ is the refrain, as the warp factor hammers out its factory rhythms by way of approval. Fancifully, we are charmed by techno-naked grasshopper synthesisers as they weave their way up to the surface.

One awesome single. Two belting tracks. Lovely.
