Review: 'PALLOT, NERINA'
'Sophia'

-  Label: '14th Floor Records'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '25th September 2006'-  Catalogue No: '14FLR016CD'

Our Rating:
Its piano driven and awash with wavering high scales - effortlessly reached by the pitch perfect vocals of the artist herself. NERINA PALLOT’S new single Sophia (pronounced So-Fire) follows up the Top 20 hit ‘Everybody’s Gone To War’, and it’s as radio friendly as a bacon butty on a breakfast show.

Nerina’s delivery is looped around a revolving chorus hook designed to stick in your head and stay there. With a dash of country here and a little bit of rock n’ roll there, this mid tempo ballad seeks a place in your heart, or your head via the door marked ‘inoffensive’. It’s everything that mainstream music should be – safe, middle of the road, and somewhat beguiling, with a throwaway structure that proves perfect for airing what is an undoubted talent for song.

It has, again, got Top 20 written all over it. Whether that’s a good thing is less clear, but with so little to offend about it, this could well find it’s way into your bathtime repertoire via the back door
