Well established as a creative and spiritual singer songwriter on the London circuit, Karim Fanous is hoping to spread his wings through the release of ‘Perfume’, a taste of what’s to come in 2007.
Packaged between two B-sides, ‘Perfume’ is a light and bouncy, rock influenced number inspired by Patrick Suskind’s book of the same name, and is, in Fanous’ own words “about being a prisoner of your own desire.” Wholly inoffensive with elements of blues and creative guitar basics, his rich soulful vocals are pushed to the fore, and add a new dimension to the love and loneliness dealt with in Suskind’s novel.
But despite being a good soft rock foot tapper, it’s one for the dad’s, somewhat drawn out and not excitable or fresh enough to worry the more established of artistes out there.
