Review: 'JOHNNY MENTAL'
'PINING FOR THE FJORDS'

-  Label: 'HANGMAN'S JOKE RECORDS'
-  Genre: 'Thrash Metal' -  Release Date: 'October 2006'-  Catalogue No: 'HJR012'

Our Rating:
JOHNNY MENTAL emerged from the South Wales Valleys in 2002 and have been terrorizing venues all around the UK ever since. “Pining For The Fjords” is their debut full-length release, following an EP and a split EP with Shaped By Fate.

This is excellent, no holds barred frantic hardcore metal. Johnny Mental have a faultless blend of hardcore noise and melodic interludes, the balance of which most bands in this genre get completely wrong, refreshingly the 80’s style twiddly guitar parts which bands such as Johnny Truant, Architects and Bring Me The Horizon seem to insist on are not present here, leaving plenty of room for proper riffs.

It’s hard to pick any stand out track from this album as it cruises along at a fantastically high standard throughout, intense and relentless.
