Our Rating:
This is gorgeous, not surprising really considering the pedigree of the musicians involved. Greg Dulli the former “Afghan Whigs” front man returns once more with his “Twilight Singers” collective of like-minded souls and blows us away once more with the quality and depth of his talent.

This 5 track EP starts with a reworking of Massive Attack’s “Live With Me” and it’s given the suitable Twilights treatment, completely dismantled and rebuilt in their own particular way. The result is however equally as dark as the original with the ever present Mark Lanegan providing a very different vocal approach to Terry Callier,

The beats make a welcome return with aptly titled second track “Sublime” with Greg Dulli’s lead vocals being backed up by the guest vocals of Joseph Arthur who also bring the aforementioned beats to this track. The smooth flow and soft beats are reminiscent of the work on the Twilight Singers’ Fila Brazilia produced first album “Twilight, as played by the Twilight Singers”.

Mark Lanegan makes a return for “Flashback” with a surprisingly smooth vocal performance backed up by Greg Dulli, with an awesome bassline, which is very reminiscent of the Afghan Whigs material. The Whigs flashbacks continue with “They Ride” co written with former Afghan Whig Rick McCollum, and the sound is there, the jangling guitar sound. To me this sounds like listening to “Gentlemen” again, dark, brooding and emotional.

The EP is brought to an end with “The Lure Would Prove Too Much” which slows the pace with dreamy soft vocals and atmospheric pedal steel country sounds and semi acoustic rock tones.

This EP is more than just a “Stitch In Time”, it seems like a stitch in several times, past, present and possible future sounds for Greg Dulli and the “Twilight Singers”, fantastic stuff.
