Review: 'CHARLATANS, THE'
'YOU'RE SO PRETTY, WE'RE SO PRETTY'

-  Label: 'ISLAND (www.thecharlatans.net)'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'November 2006'

Our Rating:
Punched into dance-enhanced shape by every credster’s favourite deskmeister Youth, ‘You’re So Pretty, We’re So Pretty’ is both a fine,re-worked lap of honour single to celebrate THE CHARLATANS’ singles collection ‘Forever’ and the one that attaches the sonic crocodile clips to the band’s baggy, acieed-fuelled past.

Built around 4 to the floor beats, Tony Rogers’ Italian house piano and synth motifs, Tim Burgess’s lippy vocals and an “oo-ooo” refrain straight outta The Stones’ ‘Miss You’, ‘You’re So Pretty’ is inspired magpie-style theft all round. It’s a sure-fire smash at any self-respecting indie club the length and breadth of the isles and you can indeed bet this will look (and sound) good on the dancefloor.

Just to ram the point home, we also get a seriously chilled, slo-mo, loping version of the same tune as the flipside. It’s primarily a diversion, but a good one nonetheless and reminds us that The Charlies are still capable of burrowing into our synapses even when they cool it right down.   The survivors strike again and live to fight another day. Long may they stay in our midst.
