-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: 'November 2006'-  Catalogue No: '-'

Our Rating:
Dream Of The Sun is the second album from MATT DIBBLE, and is available through itunes.

Dibble cites Prince and the Beatles amongst his many influences, and in places this is a rather eclectic blend of jazzy keys and handclapping psychedelia with a distinctly 6T’s flavour. ‘Dream Of The Sun’ gives romantic love the full champagne and roses treatment as a cocktail of flavours come together in this off-key collection of songs.

Delicately layered tracks are cleanly mixed for a veneered feel, though it is the arrangements that are more important to the overall jazz dischordant effect. This is pop music with a mature appeal, with the vast majority of the ten tracks sounding like they’d stand alone as jazz or pure pop numbers.

Harmonies are layered in with the generous piano pieces and occasional saxophone to create original songs with an oddly-familiar feel. Dibble’s voice puts me in mind of Christopher Cross, and bridges the gap between the sixties’ jazz influences and the 1980’s polish of the finished production.

Elsewhere, synthesisers blare out as breakbeats form the basis for euphoria (‘Dance’), but the shifting piano is an undoubted strength, especially in ‘Lost & Found’, and the finale ‘Sing Sweet Sounds’.

Despite the popular influences and soft-focus feel, this is not a release that was designated for mass adulation. Yet there is a definite appeal to these intelligently crafted and shamelessly mainstream ditties. To discover if this is music to your ears, you should visit Matt’s myspace and have a wee listen! The album, as with Matt’s previous release, is available for download through itunes.
