Hailing from Coventry, Liam Watts, Tom Clarke, and Andy Hopkins decided that working for Peugeot or Jaguar (previously the 2 largest employers in Coventry, both plants have now closed and The Enemy hate Peugeot, they often wear Fuck Peugeot t-shirts and this song includes a derogatory reference “Leave your Peugeot on the forecourt”) was not for them, so like a couple of other discontent youths (Arctic Monkeys) they formed a band. Just 8 months on and things are going very well, The Enemy are supposedly one of the bands to watch out for in 2007, touring with The Fratellis, their debut album has got many music journos salivating with anticipation.
Having watched the partial deterioration of their home town and friends and relations losing jobs, lead singer xxx has taken his experiences and put it to music, ‘It’s Not OK’ is a glimpse into a young mans dreary life “Your girlfriend don’t love you but still she stays to make a home for you to stay/The people above you keep you held down” . Although the subject matter seems far from upbeat, the tempo is fast paced and as the chorus kicks in proclaiming that this situation is ‘Not OK’ if you weren’t paying attention to lyrics this is essentially a chirpy and attractive indie pop song.

It is easy to spot the influence of bands such as The Who, Kasabian and Oasis and I do think this is a perfectly listenable track, but there is just nothing remarkable about it and for a band who have been so hyped up I expected a bit more.
