Review: 'EARLIES, THE'
'THE ENEMY CHORUS'

-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'February 2007'

Our Rating:
According to their biography The Earlies are bigger than words and extremely hard to describe, having listened to their album I can wholeheartedly agree.

The band is half British and half American. Lancashire men Christian Madden and Giles Hatton meet Texan Brandon Carr and John Mark Lapham in a recording studio in Manchester. They all started making beautiful music together and now they have with a few years experience under their belts have come back with this, their second album.

Flowing down a similar vein to The Flaming Lips; The Earlies take country, electronica, rock and pop, smoosh them all together in a big crumpled ball, to produce a psychedelic lo-fi symphony that’s easy on the ears.

The electronic sounds of ’No Love In Your Heart’ are like something you could imagine George Harrison and John Lennon producing after taking a bit too much acid, while ‘Foundation and Earth’ and ‘Broken Chain’ sound like something that may have been conceived as both artists experienced the come down!

‘Burn The Liars’ is a short and sweet number positively bursting with energy and attitude compared to the meandering crawl of other tracks. ‘When the Wind Blows’ is the only other song to come even close to the having that much energy. While closing track ‘Breaking Point’ matches it (Burn The Liars) in attitude!

I do quite like ‘Gone For The Most Part’ it’s like a show tune that could be used to dramatise a range of different scenes and emotions.

It is undeniable that The Earlies produce a unique and beautiful sound – at points it is a bit too slow for my liking but the kind of album that would just suit a lazy Sunday afternoon.
