Review: 'HORRORS, THE'
'Sounds From Outer Space'

-  Genre: 'Ambient'

Our Rating:
As a counterpoint to the demonic clatter of their debut album, the Horrors have decided to reward their most devoted fans with a compilation of subdued and meandering proto-electronica.

Betraying a nerdish antiquarianism comically at odds with their goth-nihilist pretensions, they’ve ransacked the dingiest recesses of their vinyl collections to bring you as obscure a playlist of forgotten oddities as they could find.

Synth-pop progenitors Suicide make an appearance, as do ’60s electronica pioneers Silver Apples (also recently namechecked by the Klaxons) but that’s about as mainstream as it gets. The rest of it seems to be muffled and warbling psychedelia from the late ’50s by no-one you’ve ever heard of.

The whole assemblage is so rambling and inconsequential that your mind will have wandered to more pressing concerns before you even realise it’s over.
