Review: 'THIS ET AL'
'OF NATIONAL IMPORTANCE / THE MOTHER POSITION (7 in'

-  Label: 'FC Recordings (Cargo Records distribution)'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: 'March 19 2007'-  Catalogue No: 'FCR701'

Our Rating:
Huge, loud, desperately confident and unstoppably exciting.

That’s it

This is a vinyl single released ahead of a national tour and full (Cargo Records supported) release for the magnificent “Baby Machine” album in April (see W&H for an early review).

“Of National Importance”, produced to the exacting-isn’t-good-enough standards of Richard Green, comes from the album.

It's a scream-along anthemic blast of contemporary rock and roll that takes it for granted that a good hit tune now requires: smart lyrics, tempo changes, blends of guitar, synth and strings, pyrotechnic drumming, full colonisation of every audible frequency and an instantly recognisable sound. Play it loud, play it often. It’s very very good.

“The Mother Position” is a new bonus track, produced by the multitalented James Kenosha. It sounds like a canny younger brother to "Of National Importance", lighter but just as smart, with a strong family resemblance. Apart from anything else it makes purchase of the vinyl as well as the album pretty well essential.
