Our Rating:

Bizarre and strangely endearing, the DULOKS’ music seems as though it was made for 7” vinyl.

The deeply synthesised pop musings of this all-girl trio merge the rattle of the Roland with playground mantra vocals, creating a quirky mid-tempo adventure through their binary-driven eccentricities across four tracks with odd charm that drip with lyrical insanity.

The A-side’s futile apathy is beautifully communicated through waves of clanking organ. The sanest of the four has the childlike trance-out perfected amidst a downbeat tale of failure. But this is only the start.

The handclapping cartoon-tantrum energy driving ‘BOOM BOOM’ renders it a surreal gem, as is the pulsating and robotic dancer ‘Red Wizard Needs Food…Badly!!’ The cathedral echo of the keys gives a cavernous depth to these deceptively simplistic ditties, with titles that were surely translated from Japanese.

Pop as a medium is fun, poignant and energetic at it’s best. This limited edition EP is innovative, challenging and makes for compulsive listening. Tracks like this make gorgeous sense out of the idea of having a Top 40.

The sleigh bell megaphone madness of ‘Bad Vegetarian’ is completely crackers - a nightmare soundtrack with blurred boundaries despite the clarity of the message. These are no ordinary pop princesses, mark my words!
