Review: 'ROTARY TEN'
'WE TRAVELLED WITHOUT MENTIONING IT'

-  Label: 'QUICK RECORDS'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '4th June 2007'

Our Rating:
Yet another band spawned from Sheffield in the wake of the Arctic Monkeys huge success and, although originally from Lincoln, ROTARY TEN come across as a kind of hybrid of Yorkshire’s favourite sons, The Libertines, and The Smiths.

One would imagine with these influences so evident that their first single, We Travelled Without Mentioning It, is a sure-fire recipe for success. Alas, instead of taking everything good about each band and incorporating original ideas into the mould, Rotary Ten sound more like a token effort at homage.

The track itself has all the hallmarks of current indie music trends; the stop-start tempo and chiming guitars are all largely conspicuous. In singer James Trafford, the band do at least have someone who, thankfully, sounds nothing like Morrissey et al, but their sheer lack of imagination on this track leaves them with a lot of work to do if they have any desire to set themselves apart. It’ll probably be huge!
