Review: 'LOST PATROL BAND, THE'
'Automatic'

-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave' -  Release Date: 'October 2006'-  Catalogue No: 'BHR 215-2'

Our Rating:
Once upon a time there was a band called Refused. They were not fully appreciated during their time together, but they were one of the most groundbreaking and influential bands of the last 10 years. Dennis Lyxzen was in Refused, so expectations are high from this album by his latest outfit, The Lost Patrol Band.

"Automatic" is chock full of 3-minute power-pop numbers in the vein of The Buzzcocks. If you like that sort of thing, you'll probably enjoy this, but it is not what you would expect (or frankly want) to hear from such an esteemed musician.

With the song "Fucking Dead" (a song aimed at people who want Refused to reform, or Lyxzen to rehash the same ground as his former band), Lyxzen makes it clear to the listener that Refused are "fucking dead", THIS is the kind of music he wants to make and he does not care what people think. Lyxzen has earned that privilege, and in many ways it is a position to be respected.

The problem is that there is none of the genre-defying creativity that was hoped for. "Automatic" is a most apt title for this album - Lyxzen can probably write songs like this in his sleep.
