Review: 'KID ACNE'
'WORST LUCK (EP)'

-  Label: 'LEX RECORDS'
-  Genre: 'Hip-Hop' -  Release Date: '18th June 2007'-  Catalogue No: 'ELEX045EP'

Our Rating:
Coming across as some kind of one man Goldie Looking Chain, Sheffield born KID ACNE (not his real name, obviously) has the same laconic style of the Welsh comedy-rap collective, at least on this single. Its kind of funny, but all the same its not very clever.

Whilst GLC were a spot of light in a genre which tends to take itself far too seriously, Kid Acne does nothing more than ape an already exploited corner of the market.

Production wise, the loops and beats afforded him work with aplomb, creating a backdrop for the rapper to drop his daft words over, but despite the stream of consciousness lyrics which work so well for the likes of Eminem and Mike Skinner, the comedic slant does Kid Acne no real favours and the listener is constantly reminded of GLC.

It's a shame because there is something of real value lurking underneath. Kid Acne clearly has a talent for rhymes and the sampling, loops and production are great. Just five years too late.
