Review: 'POLLOCK, EMMA'
'ADRENALINE'

-  Label: '4AD (www.4ad.com)'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '21st May 2007'

Our Rating:
Since the Delgados split in 2005 EMMA POLLOCK has been busying herself with a solo career. Signing with with 4AD Pollock began touring to build up a decent fan base and this, her first single, is Adrenaline.

And it’s a good tune. Its various twists and turns from major to minor keep things fresh and interesting. Pollock’s voice is largely unremarkable but that’s not to the detriment of the song as a whole.

Its driven by a piano and bass, whilst the guitar – Pollock’s main instrument – is much lower in the mix. The greatest surprise on this number is the chorus which is at odds with the chorus, but in a good way.

It probably won’t set the charts alight, but Pollock has a decent grasp of songwriting, so it will be interesting to see how she fares over the next couple of years.
