Our Rating:

‘All The Night Without Love’ is the first single to be released from ELVIS PERKINS’ debut album ‘Ash Wednesday’, set for release in the UK next month (9th July ’07 to be exact).

Mantra-like, introspective, this is a top-class domestic drama of the kitchen sink variety. As the melancholy tale uwinds, the twang of the double-bass is a perfect foil for the both the rattling acoustic 12 string and brushed snare off-beats to gently shuffle this unassuming but very fine track along. There’s also a violin accompaniment that comes into its own just past the halfway mark with all the intensity of a tango. Bliss.

Backed with ‘The Dumps’, a home recorded, harmonica driven demo with an innocent beauty standing out as the best of its many qualities, this is a superb taste of things to come. Beautiful lyrics align the young with the old, and the song skips with a downbeat optimism, the acoustic rhythm twinned with a high pitched arpeggio that’s gorgeous to hear. Judging by the sound of this, the album will be well worth a listen.
