This is the opener from the stunning album ‘Leaving The Nest’, the mind-blowing debut from David Lynch obsessive children’s nanny turned musician BENJY FERREE.
‘In The Countryside’ leads you by the hand along a whistling jig of a path that leads deep into nursery rhyme territory.
“If the engine is warm/Please do not scorn/Or you will then go away-oh no/And sleep on the floor all day”
Held upright by sturdy acoustic and an unshakeable structure, the simplistic rhymes and rolling rhythm make for truly surreal listening without ever deviating from the easy, singalong melody. Deep country leanings are given the abstract treatment whilst the break jangles and grinds thanks to the jam on chiming percussion and distorted guitar.
Though not the best of the bunch, this is still endearing, addictive and simply glowing with childlike appeal.
