The Newcastle band’s second album carries on from where its platinum-selling predecessor, ‘A Certain Trigger’ left off. Containing their indie-rock sound and the trademark voice of Paul Smith, it leads to a very entertaining forty-two minutes.
The highlight of the album is ‘By The Monument’, which includes references to various places in Newcastle, including Grey’s Monument. The song tells of someone longing for a lost lover, and embraces lyrics showing the vulnerable side to Maximö, such as “In my wallet with your photo booth smile/posterity has hold of us now”. A solid record that should see the group retain their enviable position as front-runners of the music scene.
