Review: 'WALSH, KATE'
'Gateshead, The Sage, 17th September 2007'

-  Genre: 'Pop'

Our Rating:
The Sage was packed to the rafters last Monday, as KATE WALSH – the utterly spellbinding solo artist akin to the likes of Norah Jones and KT Tunstall, was given the support slot for Richard Hawley. Walsh is quickly gaining more and more momentum on a national stage, with her debut album “Tim’s House” clinching the number one spot on iTunes and with a huge UK tour currently underway.

As Kate steps onto the stage, it’s impossible to avoid the electricity and atmosphere she oozes – the stage is completely empty, except for Walsh – illuminated by a spotlight and holding her acoustic guitar. This, alone, is enough to show just how fantastically confident the Brighton-born vocalist is.

Her music is derived straight from the heart, and has something which everyone can relate to. She covers everything fromthe complexities of falling in love to the giddiness of one-night stands, and relies on nothing more than an acoustic guitar for accompaniment.

Kate’s voice has to be heard to be believed – no matter how good she sounds on her sensual and impressive album, the bar is raised tenfold when you experience her live. The audience at The Sage seemed in awe of her - you could have heard a pin drop.

The highlights of her set – “Your Song” and “Tonight” - are guaranteed to stir up strong emotions inside of you – and if they don’t, checking for a pulse is seriously recommended.

For a very intimate gig and one you’ll treasure for an incredibly long time, you can catch Kate Walsh performing all over the country for the next few months. Her album, “Tim’s House”, is now on sale on Mercury Records and comes highly recommended too.
