Review: 'IRRITANT'
'DARK CITY'

-  Genre: 'Heavy Metal' -  Release Date: '17th September 2007'

Our Rating:
Dark City by metal/progressive rock group Irritant ignites straight after the first few seconds, with overdriven-fuled twin guitars and a thumping rhythm section. With music clearly influenced by previous giants of their genre, such as Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden, Irritant have created a brooding, hulking song that steps up a gear in all of the right places. The band set themselves aside from all other metal bands due to the vocals, which are similar to that of Evanescence, and is in the forefront of Dark City, which helps it flow well.

On record, Irritant have created very polished and heavily-produced material, which will help the band appeal to a much greater audience. However, this may also make them lose their edge and raw grittiness, as the song feels almost held-back in certain parts and lacks a little passion.

With a very loyal fanbase and having shared stages with the likes of Enter Shikari, Irritant appear poised to do well and have support from Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson and producer Vic Coppersmith-Haven, who has worked with the likes of The Rolling Stones, The Jam, Joe Cocker and Black Sabbath.

(‘Dark City’ is available from September 17th on all formats.)
