Review: 'HOT PUPPIES'
'KING OF ENGLAND (limited edition single)'

-  Label: 'FIERCE PANDA (www.thehotpuppies.com)'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: 'October 2007'

Our Rating:
It isn't every day that a band fulfils its own potential with a perfect harmony of musicians, message and image. The parameters are so numerous that to achieve that balance is no mean feat.

A limited edition taster from their forcoming album 'Blue Hands' out early next year with their label Fierce Panda, The Hot Puppies stand out as more than a thrilling sound. With unexpected political lyrics and highly infectious melodies, and vocalist Becki Newman's Chrissie Hynde-like tones, this sample of a fully formed idea gets you dancing and wanting more.

What may at first strike as a lipstick band turns into an aural festival, bringing to mind seventies' spunk, eighties' make-up, nineties' cool with a pinch of Bowie's glam and a sprinkle of Pulp's drama. All brought neatly into the noughties.

Originally from Aberystwyth, now based in Cardiff, The Hot Puppies have been around since 2001 and have released two excellent albums to critical acclaim, with an additional early recordings collection released back in July this year. If this is the future, we want it now.
