When trying to create beautiful and passionate music, there is a very fine line between stunning and dreary. 'Dear Me' is the latter. Nothing stands out as remarkable – Greg Berten's vocals are earnest and bland, the tune itself is lacking in anything to make the casual muso sit up and listen. The song meanders around without taking you anywhere, it's the sound of The Stills warming up. What it seems are meant to be searing moments are the musical equivalent of a shrug. The single is supported by more of the same – move along please, there's nothing to see here. 'Plots and Pans' introduces a male/female dynamic to the vocals, but again fails to produce anything of note.
Perhaps live is where this band might impress, but this single does nothing to promote the band. It's never going to be anyone's favourite song, and that's surely what it's all about, isn't it?
