Our Rating:

Cambridge collective THE PONY COLLABORATION release ‘The Fast Lane’ as a superb first single from their celebrated self-titled debut album. Their British take on Americana includes the piano and the glockenspiel, as well as the melodica, viola and all kinds of percussion. This eccentric blend of instruments, fronted by the twin vocals of James Scallan and Claire Williams, makes for a strangely appealing ‘perfect pop’ sound that’s hard not to like. I like it a lot.

Delicate emotions pour from the sweeping acoustic current of the A-side as the strings scrape gently against the giddy tempo. There’s a bass led understated stomp in the pre-chorus to accentuate the extra melodies in the final few bittersweet bars. It’s powerful and poignant to the core

As is the excellent ‘All I Know’ - a superb bonus for those who download this release. Glockenspiel reverb and a beautiful string arrangement match the clicking acoustic chime for chime during a gloriously melancholy tale of regret that whirls and creaks with past memories.

Considered, reflective and touching, TPC’s music is an absolute joy to listen to.
