Review: 'KID ACNE'
'Eddy Fresh (single)'

-  Label: 'Lex Records'
-  Genre: 'Dance' -  Release Date: '26th November 2007'-  Catalogue No: 'Lex008'

Our Rating:
Kid Acne are a fun loving bunch from Sheffield and this single gives us a taster from the debut album Romance Ain't Dead.

Eddy Fresh is musical equivalent of pie and chips, a cheap takeaway with all the sophistication of your local greasy spoon . With its brazenly lo-fi credentials it's been neatly dubbed 'council pop', a sub-genre of Yorkshire Rap that is part punk, part hip-hop and resolutely Northern in flavour.

MC ‘Ackers’ has an eye for the quirky details of everyday life noting a cell-phone with a ringtone that plays the riff from Smoke On the Water or an observation like: "friction burns on knees from lino"

The track exudes a rent-a-mouth soap box wisdom and definitely has a rough edged charm with vocals which are a sort of midway between John Cooper Clarke and The Prodigy's Keith Flint.

The album couplet 'That's right kids - don't fuck with Eddy Fresh' is cleaned up for mass consumption by adding an 'oi' for 'fuck' , a token gesture that in no way neutralises the brash energy of this track.
