Review: 'HURN, DAVID'
'The Man Who Stayed In Bed Forever'

-  Label: 'Fire Records'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '21st January 2008'

Our Rating:
This single is taken from David Hurn's forthcoming album 'The Beautiful Trustful Future'.

The languid, delicate vocals and lush melodic arrangement of the title track may lull you into thinking this is a romantic reflection on a lost love. Instead, it turns out to be a song of a man with a serious grudge to bear and the tone is one of subdued rage rather than regret.

The extent of the vengefulness is revealed in hard hitting lyrics like "Give me a reason to hold you, And I'll try not to break your neck". The fact that this tortured lament comes in such an attractive package makes it all the more effective.

The b-side - Your Husband & My Disappointment - is more bitterness in a sweet wrapper and these two songs prove Hurn to be songwriter of substance and promise; a singer capable of cataloguing the discomforts and obsessions of modern love with great panache and subtlety.
