Review: 'THEORETICAL GIRL'
'THE HYPOCRITE'

-  Label: 'SALVIA'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '7th December 2007'-  Catalogue No: 'TIC002'

Our Rating:
“Do not as I say, not as I do,” is the self-explanatory opening line of this recent offering from 'Theoretical Girl.' 'The Hypocrite' is the sweetest rendition of sad self-awareness to have been released in a while.

This a great little number – like an electro-Dubstar. The vocals are both fragile and bitter, and the tune itself sticks in your after one listen. It could lend itself just as easily to being an acoustic number and would impress in a slightly different way.

B-side 'Never Good Enough' is a stripped down lament seemingly based around a simple glockenspiel backing and the sadness is tangible. The lyric “I'm never good enough for you,” makes up the very simple chorus, but upon each repetition you feel like she means it a little bit more. It's very rare, it would seem, to be able to convey real emotion and a pleasant voice without sounding a little run-of-the-mill; here is a fine example of how well it can go.

Full marks for the production as well, mixed in with a little bit of talent and innovation, this is a very worthwhile listen. I, for one, cannot wait to hear more.
