Review: 'HOUSEWIVES, THE'
'GETAWAY'

-  Label: 'www.myspace.com/thehousewives'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: 'January 2008   '

Our Rating:
Imagine The Bellrays, with a male lead singer, playing in a giant tupperware container. That is 'Getaway' by THE HOUSEWIVES. This is intended to be some sort of dancefloor classic – it has the repetitive verses, the chanting chorus, and the standard keyboard prominence. It gets faster and faster until it disappears – which is great when it does. It may well be that poor production has taken something from this song, because you can imagine the crowds going wild for it – it seems to do everything right, but at the same time there's just something stopping you from fucking loving it.

Second track 'Art School Project' is some sort of ska-reggae-urban fusion and is quite embarrassing. The rapping is smug and unpracticed, and you can't help but cringe a little bit. The Streets was bad enough, but a pale imitation is something to be cringed at.

Final tune 'Shoreditch Vampires' is a low rate Sunshine Underground song. That is, it's alright. The chorus is accomplished enough, but just sounds too familiar. There are the seeds of many interesting ideas, and it alludes to the potential to stray from the regular song structures.

This review was written in two stages. On the first listen, the whole thing appeared to be shit.   Further listening reveals that only 'Art School Project' is shit. They need to get some better production and spread the word with a mind-blowing live show - because I think they have the potential to be really, very good. Let's just wait and see.

A rather interesting review, I must say. It's a shame you didn't like it but a rating of 6/10 is intriguing. Maybe it was that the reviewer didn't want to like it, for whatever reasons, rather than actually disliking it. I especially liked the comments about Artschool Project. Although it isn't my personal favourite, I'm struggling to see how the vocals can be seen as 'rapping' or a 'pale imitation' of The Streets. I'm pretty sure you'll find that the lyrics are just sung quickly. Also, for the factual accuracy record books, a 'ska-reggae-urban...shortened comments
