'WHAT HAVE I DONE?'

-  Label: 'FIRE RECORDS'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: 'January 2008'

Our Rating:
Some songs sound like cover versions just by how genre-heeding they are. This is one of them – a kind of trucker-ballad that plays by the conventions from start to finish.

This song is categorised by its' lazy, slightly wistful undertones with rather tried-and-tested lyrics laced in familiar sentiments (“Every night before I go to sleep, I pray the lord, my soul to keep”), and it does sound rather like Christian rock (unless the irony is really deeply concealed). The outright cheesiness of this is quite hard to overcome, but there are some positives if you look a little at the melody. It speeds up and slows down, and overall makes a pleasant little tune – but at what point are you meant to be interested?

It's hard to say what to make of this song. There's nothing unique or new about it, but it is a gentle stroll through some country-fied rock 'n' roll and very authentic it is at that. Essentially the sound of a pub band, it's not a dull song as it goes through several changes, but at the same time, you really have heard it all before. If you heard this blind, you would have no idea that it was from a current band. The remix is as unnecessary as it is bad – surely someone's first attempt at giving a song the synth treatment.

If you want to jig at a menopausal square dance, then here is your anthem.
