Review: 'SPILT MILK'
'FRANK (7"single)'

-  Label: 'www.myspace.com/spiltmilkspiltmilkspiltmilk'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: 'January 2008'

Our Rating:
Is there room in the music world for more than one Los Campesinos!? SPILT MILK are here with the same sort of twee lo-fi idea, but this time adopting a more JJ72 style whiny drawl. 'Frank' is not a bad single – the xylophone is a little too prominent, but overall it's a nice effort – not overproduced and enough to make a room of indie kids kicks their legs a little bit. It might be the Xylophone, incidentally, that draws the Los Campesinos! reference, but it's hard to ignore. It's an alright song – nothing special – a little too indie for it's own and quite forgettable.

B-side 'Little Habits', however, is ace. It sounds The Futureheads downing tools and taking some magic mushrooms. It's a love song essentially, about those things about people that seem a little peculiar, but are kind of endearing. The vocal performance is much better (with the refrain of repeated 'little habits' being infectious even on the first listen), and extra marks for the strong cowbell action towards the end. This is enough to warrant more interest in the future – it'll be interesting to see which way they go.
