Snap judgement – this is an annoying little tune from what seems to be a revival of the pop-garage craze around the turn of the millenium.
Second thought – Roni Size did some great tunes that worked on a similar basis – there's a good beat to it and the lyrics are kind of charming. Am I just disliking this because I think I should?
Third thought – That chorus is fucking catchy.
It's totally meaningless – a general appreciation of the opposite sex, a story told in hip-hop millions of times before (think Usher's 'Yeah!' but with more rapping and that British grit we're all so fond of) . But it's more about the tune than the sentiment. It's hard to tell how songs like this seem to have won alternative hearts – it doesn't fit into the mould of what's accepting. White kids the nation over will be embarrassing themselves trying to dance to this, but you can see why they're at least having a go.
