Review: 'ROSIE TAYLOR PROJECT, THE'
'A GOOD CAFE ON GEORGE STREET'

-  Label: 'Bad Sneakers Records'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '31 March 2008'-  Catalogue No: 'Download'

Our Rating:
This charming single first appeared as a raw demo on the THE ROSIE TAYLOR PROJECT's début "Scotland Sketches EP". It will also be on the band's first album: "This City Draws Maps", set for release on April 21. This single version is newly recorded and gently produced. It still has the simple charm of the super lo-fi demo, but a steadier pulse, in-tune guitars and Sophie Barnes' double-tracked trumpet are well worth the wait. The early spirit is captured and the sound is good.

Based in Leeds, a city with its own George Street, the band have a song here that trembles with the best of Edinburgh tweeness. The first trumpet entry marches in right behind a lyric about the Military Tattoo, and the Castle gets a mention too. Jonny Davies' wistful lyric dreams of dancing, café retreat and young love in a very handsome place.
