Review: 'Stardeath and White Dwarfs'
'Toast and Marmalade for Tea / Chemical'

-  Label: 'Half Machine Records'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: 'March 3 2008'

Our Rating:
And the award for the best band name of the year goes to….well, to be honest, I wouldn’t give it to these as it conjures up images of death metal, short men with straining tshirts and long black beards.

However, names can be mis-leading and in this case it definitely is. Having toured the USA with the likes of British Sea Power and Band of Horses the band are now releasing this, their first UK release, a double A sider consisting of ‘Toast and Marmalade for Tea’ and ‘Chemical’. The former is a melodic joyride, whilst on mushrooms of course! Echoes of Small Faces and the entire 1970s abound along with more contemporary flavours – The Flaming Lips for one, who are, incidentally, related to the band. Describing themselves as ‘space pop’ the band sum themselves up pretty perfectly.

‘Chemical’, in contrast, is a riff laden romp through the 60s. Just as psychedelic as its predecessor Stardeath… are a band who create lush, trippy melodies to spend your time daydreaming to.
