Our Rating:
Frank Zappa once said that one of the causes of the declining mental health of Americans was the prevalence of dumb love lyrics.

Songs that talk about sex in an honest, adult manner are rare - more often than not, pop music depicts love and intimacy in highly clichéd or sentimental terms.

The London-based Parisian synth pop trio 'The Teenagers do not fall into this category. With strongly accented English they skip the romantic niceties and sing about fucking instead!

Unfortunately, what could be a liberating and honest treatment of modern love comes across as unpleasantly sleazy and vaguely misogynistic in that the fairer sex are just objects to score.

'Sunset Beach' ,for example, contains the lines: "She left with the sunlight. I cried in the moonlight. This crazy bitch she stole my mind. This fucking bitch deserves to die".

'French Kiss' is about getting a woman pissed as a seduction technique. There's a lecherous song about Scarlett Johansson and, on the opening track - Homecoming , we get the laddish boast: ‘I fucked my American cunt/she had nice tits’.

Lead singer Quentin Delafon improbably claimed in a blog interview that the explicit lyrics to this track are "a metaphor about the misunderstandings between men and women and the way they communicate". If this is true, I confess that the subtlety was lost on me .

Sounding like a sexed up version of The Monkees, the band's anthem is entitled Feeling Better built around a sample from New Order's 'Ceremony,

On Streets Of Paris there is the gleeful chant of "We're teenagers and we dont care" despite the fact that in real life the threesome are in their mid twenties.

Their choice of band name is as redundant as the music they make.
