Review: 'ROYAL TREATMENT PLANT'
'GET PLAYED'

-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'May 2008'

Our Rating:
Nothing wrong with a bit of dirty rock and roll once in a while. ‘Get Played’ is the first single from Royal Treatment Plant’s forthcoming mini-album ‘Hope is Nor Enough,’ and it’s a good solid rock tune. It’s quite brainless, but it’s a lot of fun. It’s message is simple – it’s about doing it dirtily and cheaply, and I’d like to think that we’ve all felt like this once in a while.

It’s a strong song – the verses are rather sweet sounding, Cardigans-like even. The chorus moves into a riot-grrrl Arctic Monkeys kind of feeling – the progression from nice girl to predator. Punk rock with a slight electro-feel perhaps the best way to describe it. It’s hard to say there’s enough about this to make you want to investigate further, but it’s enjoyable enough. They should just be aware that Be Your Own Pet are doing this sort of thing much better.

B-side ‘Hearts & Minds’ is really quite dull. It’s a middle of the road, country-tinged song and does detract from any positive thoughts you might have had about the main single. It wouldn’t surprise me if it turned up on the soundtrack to the forthcoming Sex & The City film. I’d imagine that Royal Treatment Plant think they are much feistier than they really are.

All rather forgettable, really.
