Review: 'PIGEON DETECTIVES, THE'
'THIS IS AN EMERGENCY'

-  Label: 'DANCE TO THE RADIO'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: 'June 2008'-  Catalogue No: 'DTTR043CD'

Our Rating:
It’s been a remarkably quick turn around for THE PIGEON DETECTIVES in between albums one and two. It’s nice to be able respect a band for having a prolific nature, especially if they come back with something that is stunning and advances their sound.

Not so for their comeback single. ‘This is an Emergency’ is Pigeon Detectives by numbers through and through. It’s formulaic right from the lyrics, to the structure, to the riffs, to the melody. At any given moment, it could degenerate into the chorus of “I’m Not Sorry.” It’s their trademark indie rock song, with absolutely nothing new to get your teeth into.
This is made all the worse by the fact that I didn’t like them in the first place. They represent everything that is wrong with this heard it all before brand of Virgin radio friendly blandness.

It’ll be interesting to see whether people still give a damn after another album’s worth of singles like this, but history tells us that in spite of how staid and dull this is, they’ll continue to be wildly popular.
