Review: 'TALKS, THE'
'Picture This'

-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'June 2008'

Our Rating:
Hull's The Talks have quite the resume. Having toured with such greats as Bad Manners and The Specials, and notched up some pretty high profile admirers along the way (Robert Plant, Alan McGee, Mick Jones) this debut single arrives with a bit of oomph behind it.

Taking all the best bits of The Clash and bringing it bang up to date, Picture This is an instant hit. From the moment the opening riff kicks in, 'til the moment the closing chord rings out, this is original, no gimmicks indie-punk. About as far removed from the mountain of flash in the pan post-libs bands as could be...

What the listener should bear in mind is this - The Talks aren't revolutionary but they aren't meant to be. What they provide is a gigantic 2 fingers up to scenester culture and all the bullshit politics within. And for that alone they should be applauded.
