Our Rating:

‘Let The First Time Be The Last’ is the debut single from Olympus Mons and is taken from their forthcoming album, ‘Nothing’s Gonna Spoil My Day Today’

In my last review, I highlighted this track as a standout from the album and I’m glad that they’ve chosen this as their first single.

The track opens with a mellow guitar and a funky bass-line that perfectly accompany front-man Aaron McIntosh’s trademark cockney drawl before building to the sing-along chorus. This track clearly shows why the band identify themselves as indie/2-step and is the perfect track to introduce the band to the world.

As is the norm with Olympus Mons tracks (well from the 16 I’ve heard on the album), there are a lot of lyrics, not too many, just a lot. McIntosh is rarely mute on record, his instantly recognisable vocals dictate where the song is going, rising and falling, screaming and squealing over the busy guitars and effortlessly tight drums.

To reiterate my review of the album, Olympus Mons are a great band and their music is unlike anything currently circling the mainstream. I can’t wait to check out this band live and I suggest you check them out, either live or on record, as soon as possible.
