Review: 'ESSEX, DAVID'
'All The Fun Of The Fair'

-  Album: 'All The Fun Of The Fair' -  Label: 'Universal'
-  Genre: 'Eighties' -  Release Date: 'September 15th 2008'

Our Rating:
There’s nothing new on this compilation of David Essex’s greatest hits but it’s a strong collection, with 19 tracks that include; ‘Hold Me Close’, ‘Gonna Make You A Star’, ‘Rock On’, ‘A Winters Tale’ and of course ‘All The Fun Of The Fair’, so they really have hit the Greatest part of the equation on the head with this collection.

The most interesting thing about the release is that it comes accompanied with a new touring stage production. Entitled ‘All The Fun Of The Fair’ to match both the title of the album and the opening track; the stage show is a loosely autobiographical account of Essex’s life told through a story involving a travelling funfair run by ‘Levi Lee’ (Essex), who is dealing with the loss of his wife and the rebellion of his teenage son. The show will be travelling the country over the next few months with stops in London, Manchester, Glasgow, Cardiff, Birmingham, Bristol and a host of smaller towns and cities in between.

Essex’s fans will lap this up and I must profess that I had forgotten how many of his tracks I had a soft spot for until this arrived! Overall it’s a great collection and certainly something that every Essex fan should add to their collection.
