Review: 'MY MORNING JACKET'
'TOUCH ME, I'M GOING TO SCREAM (Pt.2)'

-  Label: 'ROUGH TRADE'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: 'September 2008'

Our Rating:
My Morning Jacket have largely bypassed me. I’ve heard bits and pieces, and I could see why people liked them, but they’re not my cup of tea. There was something a little too twee about them for my liking. This attitude meant that I didn’t see them at Glastonbury, and although I was told they were brilliant, I still remained disinterested. This single (the first from new album ‘Evil Urges’), however, has surprised me a little.

‘Touch Me I’m Going To Scream’ is like MMJ doing a Hot Chip song in the style of Donna Summer. Or New Order having a playful fist-fight with the Pet Shop Boys. I don’t love it, but I respect the progression. It’ll go down well in the indie clubs and I think their fans are going to love it. It’s rather epic and goes through plenty of changes, and quite satisfyingly it includes a bit of mellow screaming as well. It has the epic feel of a disco Bohemian Rhapsody at times, and it’s done something to change my perception of them a little.

Possibly even enough for me to go and check out the album, if I remember…
