Our Rating:
Digging deep into her soul, Barrie Hart (http://www.barriehart.com) shows us that she can be a musician with a passion for God. Without a doubt, Hart pours out her love for God so honestly that one may be convinced that there is something more to this world than existing. In her current album "Whom Shall I Send?" it is clear that Hart is pouring out her soul in her lyrics: "I come to worship you, in spirit and in truth." Hart confesses her true feelings for God in "Fragrant Oil," "Amazing Grace," and in her bonus track, one will be spiritually satisfied for a long while.

Adam Harrington: Growing up, you were learned to sing hymns at church, who was your biggest inspiration in terms of Christian music?

Hart: I didn't listen to any Christian music growing up. In my early 20s I took vocal lessons and sang backup for a local blues artist, Sarah Baker. She was friends with and sang backup on Ashley Cleveland's album, "Big Town." Sarah taught me the song "Walk To the Well." It spoke to me so deeply because it's so raw and real. Ashley's music not only inspired me to listen to Christian music, but to return to church.

Harrington: Every musician has a mentor; do you remember who motivated you to continue on with your music career when times would get tough?

Hart: I think my vocal coaches over the years have really done that, but most recently my coach John Scott (male vocal on "Who am I"). He has been amazing in not only supporting me musically but spiritually. He truly believes in me and what I have to say. He doesn't let me give up.

Harrington: What would you say is your most memorable moment as a musician?

Hart: The first time I led worship at San Quentin State Prison. It was so scary walking into that, but the power of God was so strong and the men so alive.

Harrington: When you were starting off as a musician, who was the person that recognized you as a talent amongst many?

Hart: I would have to say it was my vocal coach, Sarah Baker. When she asked me to sing backup for her, I knew that someone who was so talented actually thought I had talent and that made me think maybe I did.

Harrington: Which instrument did you first learn how to play?

Hart: Guitar when I was 12.
