'UNTIL'

-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '30th June, 2008'-  Catalogue No: 'Text 005'

Our Rating:
Singer songwriter, Kathryn Bint is originally from Chicago but moved to London in 2003.

Until is her debut album under the moniker 'One Little Plane' - a name inspired by the 1940’s Disney cartoon Saludos Amigos.

Fans of Four Tet and Fridge will need no other reason for checking it out than to learn that it is the result of a three-year collaboration between her and folktronica whizz kid , Kieran Hebden.

Here, Hebden plays a relatively restrained role but his sure touch is evident nonetheless in the creation of a clean, unfussy, mainly acoustic sound.

Bint's cutesy lisp and saccarine sweet voice lend her songs a certain naivety and there is no denying a certain 'hello birds, hello sky' aspect to the material as she stays resolutely on the sunny side of life.

The single - Sunshine Kid - is representative of tunes which are as delicate as the multicoloured paper papers that grace the album sleeve.

Thankfully this sense of rose-tinted wonderment and fragility is bolstered by more sobre notes of wistfulness and realism. Her head may be in the clouds but her feet are on the ground .

On 'Summer Stream', for instance, she vows that she "will not reach for something that doesn't want to be held". This image is repeated on another of the album's stand out tracks ,'Long Time Ago. which tells of a couple who married at 17 and who "promised to have what we couldn't hold".

Other strong tracks are 'Lotus Flower' with a clipped jungly beat and multi-tracked vocals, and the charming bittersweet reflectiveness of 'The Snails Are Out Tonight'.

Like all rich desserts, the overall taste can be a lttle sickly at times but is very nice when consumed in small portions.
