Review: 'HAMMOND, ALBERT JR.'
'GfC [Single]'

-  Label: 'Rough Trade'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '14th July 2008'-  Catalogue No: 'RTRADS459'

Our Rating:
'GfC' is the first track from Albert Hammond, Jr's second album, '¿Cómo te llama?', and apparently refers to the chord progression in the song (G/Fminor/C). It starts off with a jingle and a jangle, the guitar broken chords slipping up and down the register smoothly, in a similar manner to The Smiths' iconic sound, before letting its hair down a bit for the chorus.

There, the song branches off into 70s classic rock territory, no bad thing, where the head can do some much-anticipated nodding. The track is very polished, stepping further away from the sound of The Strokes' debut album 'Is This It', but it nevertheless offers a very diverting listen. It maintains its rough edge for the guitar solo which is tight and taught, reminiscent of John Frusciante to my ear, and displays enough inventiveness to keep the listener entertained and interested during its short 3.14 duration.
