Jens Berents Chritiansen is a long-established Danish musician who has been working in electronica since 2000.
This third full-length album is my first acquaintance. The CD came to me quite recently: but vinyl is also still available and all tracks can be streamed, charge-free from last.fm
Well regarded in electronica circles, RUMPISTOL has an ambient acceptability that listeners like me (with no particular brief for electronica as a genre) can get much pleasure and interest from.
The eight tracks are intensively packed with timbres, textures, tempos and dynamics that have minimal repetition but confident flow. Recorded sound, drum machines and synthesisers are used for variance and development. Emotional responses are pretty well guaranteed. (the bass lines in "Analog", in particular, tug away at the floating capsules of air, light and helium in the upper registers, much as they might in a postrock epic).
Skittering percussive twitches are prominent - tempting out that wretched (and in this case very misleading) word "glitch". But it must also be reported that an imagination-defying range of other sounds are also presented. To very good effect.

Writing about electronica is nowhere near as much fun as making, or listening to it. I guess that a lot more people than normally allow themselves to get absorbed in such stuff would find this a reassuring and rewarding entrée. It feels like grown-up music made by an intelligent being from our very own planet. And should you require gentle re-entry to the familiar, the beautiful string sounds of closing track "Dynamo" are very comforting.
My tip: taste the last.fm tracks on the best sound system you can find.
