Review: 'FLEET FOXES'
'MYKONOS'

-  Label: 'BELLA UNION (www.bellaunion.com)'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '26th January 2009'-  Catalogue No: 'BELLA191P'

Our Rating:
There's no stopping Seattle golden boys FLEET FOXES right now. Their eponymous debut recently passed the 100,000 sales mark in the UK alone and their gigs sell out at an alarming rate. To cap it all, they beat off the likes of Radiohead and Elbow to cop the inaugural Uncut Music Magazine Award and as 2009 dawns, they are ready to go from strength to strength.

Songs like new single 'Mykonos' will do them little harm either. Culled from the (now deleted) 'Sun Giant' EP, it's very live and drenched in the mystery and atmosphere the Greek island of the title suggests. Sporting wonderful call' n' response “whoa-oh”s, it's fleeting and elusive like a mediaeval Beach Boys out in Laurel Canyon jamming with introspective early '70s Neil Young. It will surely find favour with both their rapidly-expanding fan base and anyone missing echoes of those classic sun-kissed Californian harmonies.

Fleet Foxes, then, again remind us that a song of beauty is a joy forever. It's rare to get a classic single so early in the year, but 'Mykonos' is already sounding worthy of such an epithet. Bewitching stuff.
