You can't beat a good pseudonym and a healthy dose of mystery, can you? Certainly not when our budding popsters are going by corking names like The Atmosphere and The Dragon anyway.
The Atmosphere and The Dragon make up the enigmatic MARMADUKE DUKE. They aren't really 'budding' pop stars at all, of course, because their respective day jobs involve them treading the boards with Biffy Clyro (The Atmosphere) and Sucioperro (The Dragon) respectively. Without me spelling it out for you, I've just let the cat out of the bag as to their identities, but as 'Kid Gloves' is the trailer single for their second album 'Duke Pandemonium', you're probably already aware of who they represent in an alternate reality.
Marmaduke Duke's reality, though, is skewed and full of intrigue, for 'Kid Gloves' is an upbeat affair, full of catchy synth hooks and strident beats, cocking snooks in the direction of The Postal Service and early Depeche Mode. It's actually very poppy and immediate, with (I assume?) The Atmosphere duetting with Sneaky Sound System's Connie Mitchell and it's full of loaded couplets like “it won't be long until we make a scene..you've got a whole lot of mystery, baby's got a bad, bad history.” All of which merely adds spice to an enticing melting pot.

The mysterious Mr. Duke's second album is described as a the second instalment in a “three part mythological musical journey.” If that all sounds worryingly Spinal Tap, then don't panic, because The Atmosphere and The Dragon clearly have the measure of these esoteric, but engaging pop manoeuvres in the dark. Let them guide you with confidence into their shadowy future.
