-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '11th May 2009'-  Catalogue No: 'BSMVIN003'

Our Rating:
Belfast's PANAMA KINGS are creating what's still referred to in these circles as a 'buzz'. They're constantly out on the road, garnering kudos through supports with the likes of British Sea Power and Malcolm Middleton and have already been wowing the influential likes of Steve Lamacq and Zane Lowe.

So in the survival of the fittest that the Indie scene's turning into these days, Panama Kings are giving themselves a fighting chance. For their third single 'Golden Recruit' they've hooked up with soon-to-be-in-demand production hotshot Alex Metric and fashioned a slice of confident, stomping electro-pop.

And it certainly does the business. With its' thrumming synths, energetic drumming and stinging guitar, 'Golden Recruit' rattles a similar perimeter fence to the one other in-contention electro-popsters like Defend Moscow and Go! Audio are currently rushing to clamber over, but with that winning Northern Irish inflection in the vocal and a hook line loaded with self-belief and arrogance (“we can be trusted to lead the crusade!”) it's got youth, vitality and guts on its' side.

All are attributes they're gonna need to keep displaying if they've got their eyes on the prize in the long run. There's a conviction at work here, though, and it suggests Panama Kings may well be around for a while. Good enough for me.
