This limited (200) issue seven inch vinyl single has its download option. But you would miss a beautifully presented fondling opportunity if you opted for it. Best Enemies Records have succeeded in giving this first release a special lustre and a good heavy vinyl. The inclusion of a white label CD so that the black stuff can be saved for special occasions is a sign of the micro-label's perfectionist ethos.
In contrast, the single itself is a brutal noise: it's simple, direct, controlled and exciting. Billy Mason-Wood rages the vocal in the gale of a compulsively aggressive band of bass (Owen Griffiths), drums (Alistair Stobbart) and guitar (Dan Beesley). The sound has the blank seriousness of Steve Albini, with the adrenalised, meticulous thrills of Jesus Lizard. B side Ok47 has a fast, furious bass with demented explosions of vocal and guitar virtuosity. It's driving, scary stuff. If there have been tentative cultural steps to get back to something like radio-friendly grunge just lately, this is a promising refusal to compromise. The musical template is adopted, but the detail and the performance have a bravado that make them worth hearing.
