Review: 'O'MEARA, DIARMAID'
'PARANOID'

-  Label: 'Gobsmacked Records'
-  Genre: 'Dance' -  Release Date: '20th April 2009'

Our Rating:
My 13 year old daughter, who has written 'I LOVE AFRO' on her school bag, likes this one.

The relentless trance enducing tribal beats are designed to pummel such impressionable souls into submission and to prompt long suffering parents to enquire: "What , pray, is that racket?"

As a hip Dad I wouldn't dream of such a knee jerk reaction especially since it's not hard to appreciate the energy and intensity to be found here.

O'Meara is a 20 something Irishman who has built up a following deejaying on the European techno circuit as well as being head honcho of the Gobsmacked label.

Needless to say, 'Paranoid' has little in common with the Black Sabbath classic. It consists of two six minute tracks - 'Paranoia' and 'Blue' promoted for their "dirty synths, catchy hook melodies and perfectly placed beats".

They have been tailored to create dancefloor mayhem although could equally serve as serious drivetime entertainment.

Paranoia has the harder beats - like the bastard offspring of Prodigy's 'Firestarter' and Joy Division's 'Dead Souls' .

Blue has a more playful feel with elfish interludes that sound like the 'techno edit' has been supervised by a team of mishievous leprechauns.

In short, this is prime Irish techno for Afro heads everywhere.

Lock up your daughters!
