Review: 'McGUINNESS, EUGENE'
'Wendy Wonders'

Our Rating:
There’s something timeless about this track. Or perhaps it’s more accurate to say that it isn’t of this time falling somewhere between Bruce Willis’ version of ‘Under the Boardwalk’ and a cabaret 60s cover band. It has a dreamy intro, before stepping into a thumb-clicking, Casiotone rhythm. It’s listenable enough, as Eugene croons his way through his charming little break-up narrative... and then starts swearing his head off in the last verse. Some break-ups are for the best, I guess.

Additional tracks, the Ramones' ‘Judy is a Punk’ and ‘Jacqueline,’ an acoustic cover of The Coral’s number are rather uninspired and don’t really offer anything new or different or distinct from the originals. Nothing fundamentally wrong with any of it, but just sayin.’
